The Chinese mainland recorded 193 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, with 176 linked to local transmissions and 17 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Friday.

A total of 990 new asymptomatic cases were also recorded on Thursday, and 43,766 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now number 222,775, with the total death toll from COVID-19 at 5,218.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 331,841 (61,602 recoveries, 9,366 deaths)

Macao: 82 (82 recoveries)

Taiwan: 1,070,561 (13,742 recoveries, 1,235 deaths)
