Frankfurt players have thanked their goalkeeper Kevin Trapp after his crucial save in a penalty shoot-out helped the German club beat Rangers to win the Europa League final on Wednesday.

The Bundesliga side beat Rangers 5-4 in Wednesday's night final on penalties, having drawn 1-1 after extra time, to win their first European trophy in 42 years.

"I think this stadium will burn, with Champions League, yeah it's fantastic, it brings me goosebumps just thinking about this stadium, it's unbelievable." said Goncalo Paciencia, Eintracht Frankfurt forward, who kissed Trapp’s face when the German goalkeeper ran past him during the interview.

"It is an intangible feeling of happiness that we could win here on penalties, " said Sebastian Rode, Eintracht Frankfurt Captain, "To be able to celebrate with the fans who have been here for days full of tension and excitement over this game. And luckily we are the winners."

"I hope God will help us in penalty, but we also had an outstanding goalkeeper throughout this season, and I was really confident when we saw the players who show they were also very confident, so at the end I think we deserved to get this trophy." said Frankfurt Midfielder Djibril Sow praising Trapp’s contributions.

"It's lovely to hear from my colleagues that they have so much trust in me, saying that it's my night. But it's not my night, it belongs to all of us…everyone who helped get us here." Trapp said on being congratulated by his teammates for saving the penalty from Aaron Ramsey that won them the shootout.
