World's tallest cross-river transmission tower completes first stringing in China
01:05

A key part of the grand north-south electricity transmission project, the Fengcheng-Meili 500-kilovolt power transmission line, completed its first line stringing across the Yangtze River on May 18. The project spans 2,550 meters across the Jiangyin section of the Yangtze River. Standing 385 meters tall and 75 meters wide at the base, the towers have set world standards in the transmission field.

In order to secure the smooth construction of the work, the local maritime bureau had to deploy many vessels to guarantee the access of other ships. It will take about 34 days to complete the work, during which eight cruising suspensions along the construction site will be enforced.
