An explosion at a pharmacy next to a maternity hospital in the city of Shymkent in southern Kazakhstan killed three people including a newborn child on Saturday, according to the Ministry of Healthcare of Kazakhstan.

Eight more people were hospitalized with various injuries, the ministry added.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
