John Lee has thanked the central government after his appointment as chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. In a statement, Lee said he was fully aware of the responsibility now upon him. He pledged to live up to the expectations of the central government and the people of Hong Kong to comprehensively implement the principle of "One Country, Two Systems." The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong also extended congratulations to Lee.
