The Chinese mainland recorded 169 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, with 157 linked to local transmissions and 12 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Sunday.

A total of 729 new asymptomatic cases were also recorded on Saturday, and 37,636 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now number 223,145, with the total death toll from COVID-19 at 5,222.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 331,950 (61,842 recoveries, 9,370 deaths)

Macao: 82 (82 recoveries)

Taiwan: 1,240,897 (13,742 recoveries, 1,343 deaths)
