One way Beijing is gearing up for the summer is by preparing for an event entirely dedicated to the fruit of the season. The southern Daxing District is holding its 34th Watermelon Festival this Friday. It features the National Melon Challenge, where fruits are brought in from all over China to compete in six categories.
