Farmers are reaping wheat crops across China as summer harvesting season begins. Using combine harvesters, 1.67 million hectares of the crop have been reaped across China, about 8.2 percent of the total wheat plantation area. Figures from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs showed more than 650,000 modern combine harvesters will be deployed to harvest wheat this summer.
Last year, 7.33 million hectares of winter wheat from five provinces were sown late due to a rare autumn flood, and the pre-winter seedling situation was the worst in a decade. Local agricultural departments have taken a variety of measures to deal with unfavorable factors such as late sowing and inverted cold.
