"Dragons rising and Tigers leaping," the 2022 Dragon boat race between both sides of the Taiwan Straits will be held in Xiamen City, southeast China's Fujian Province from June 2 to 3. Friday marks the Dragon Boat Festival this year, as the event is a part of the holiday celebrations.
The dragon boat race, highlight of the event, will start on Thursday at the Dragon Boat Pool in Jimei district of Xiamen. More than 1,000 participants from 41 teams from both sides of the Taiwan Straits, including 24 teams from the Chinese mainland and 17 teams from Taiwan, will ride the waves together. The competition is divided into 300 meters straight race and Chinese dragon boat tug-of-war.
Apart from the race, the event will also feature a number of cultural activities, such as the 2022 Cross-Straits Youth Dragon Boat Model Competition, the Dragon Boat Fighting Parade, and the 18th Cross-Straits Dragon Boat Festival Cultural Forum. Dragon boat racing is a traditional Chinese folk activity with a long history.
This activity is co-sponsored by the Sports Guidance Center of General Administration of Sport of China, China Movie Channel, the Chinese Dragon Boat Association, Fujian Provincial Sports Bureau and Xiamen Municipal People's Government. The final will be aired live on CCTV 5+ channel, CCTV 6 Movie Channel and other new media platforms.
