The primitive forests above the 2,000-meter line on the Ailao Mountains are constantly covered by clouds and mist. Many ancient and rare species take it as an ideal sanctuary. The Ailao Mountains run through central and southern Yunnan, which divides the Yunnan-Guizhou-Plateau and the Hengduan Mountains.
