Guangzhou restaurants recover from closed-off blues
03:01

In the southern city of Guangzhou, restaurants are recovering after a slump in April due to COVID-19 suspensions. A wave of "revenge dining" and expectations for further policy support is boosting confidence in the sector. Jeremy Sargent, chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Guangdong, runs a restaurant and bar chain with five locations in Guangzhou. His company was among the recipients of the first round of government support in 2020. While business sentiment is mixed due to border controls, Sargent says the majority of British firms remain committed to China as a key part of their global strategy.
