The Dongzhai Port Nature Reserve in Hainan was the first mangrove forest or Wetland Reserve ratified by the State Council of China in July 1986. As one of the National nature reserves, it shouldered the responsibilities of protecting the wetland ecosystem by growing more man-made forests of mangroves, returning the ponds to the wet, etc.

The mangrove, the ideal habitat for birds, amphibians, reptiles, and fishes, has been well protected in this Reserve. Owing to China's first law of wetland protection published on June 1, the wetland, the kidneys of the Earth, will have a more bright future.
