The Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Festival, falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Various activities are held throughout China to commemorate the death of Chinese poet and politician Qu Yuan (340-278 BC). He drowned himself in the Miluo River in Yueyang City in Hunan Province to protest against the invaders of his motherland. People make traditional horn-shaped Zongzi and hold dragon boat races to honor his patriotism.
