A soldier was killed when terrorists targeted security forces in the North Waziristan district of Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to an army statement released on Thursday night.

"The troops initiated a prompt response and effectively engaged the terrorists' location," the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in the statement.
