Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi says China's security cooperation with the Solomon Islands is in line with international law. Wang made the remarks after meeting officials in Port Moresby, capital of Papua New Guinea. He said as an independent sovereign state, the Solomon Islands has the right to sign any agreements with other countries that it wants to.

Wang said the bilateral security framework agreement between China and the Solomon Islands is aimed at assisting the Pacific nation in maintaining social stability. He stressed that China had come to the South Pacific region to build roads and bridges to improve people's livelihoods, not to station troops or establish military bases.
