Iga Swiatek of Poland beat Cori Gauff of the U.S. 2-0 (6-1, 6-3) in the French Open women's singles final at Roland Garros in Paris on Saturday to win her second Grand Slam title.

With her 35th straight win, Swiatek beat the second-longest winning streak record since 2000 kept by Serena Williams of the U.S., and level with Venus Williams' run.

"In tennis it's pretty hard after Serena's career... So that really hit me, you know. Obviously winning a Grand Slam too, but this one was pretty special because I felt like I've done something that nobody has ever done, and maybe it's gonna be even more," Swiatek said.

World's No. 1 Swiatek swept Gauff away in the first set, leaving her opponent no chance to break. Gauff's counter-attack finally arrived in the second set and she won the first two games.

However, Swiatek responded with even more fierce offense, claiming five straight games. She had the chance to end the competition in the eighth game, but Gauff survived it and kept the final match a live.

The little suspense there was didn't last long, and eventually Swiatek proceeded to win the last game.

"Two years ago winning this was something amazing. This time I feel I worked hard to get here. It was pretty tough, the pressure was big," said the 21-year-old Pole.

Meanwhile, Gauff thanked her team for helping get her to the final.

"I'm sorry I could not get this one today, but thank you guys for always supporting me," she said.

Swiatek has now won six consecutive tournaments this season, including four WTA 1,000 titles and one major.

But to extend her unbeaten run, she will have to improve her career grass-court record of four wins and four losses in main-draw matches.
