Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the supply of American MLRS, or multiple launch rocket systems, to Ukraine essentially changes nothing in practice, TASS reported on Sunday.
"Kyiv had missiles of this range before, and they simply make up for losses," Putin was quoted as saying in an interview with the Rossiya-1 state television channel.
Putin warned however that "If the West begins to supply longer-range missiles to Kyiv, the Russian Federation will draw conclusions and strike at those objects that it so far has not touched."
U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday a new $700 million weapons package for Ukraine that will include high mobility artillery rocket systems, which can accurately hit targets as far away as 80 km.
"The United States will stand with our Ukrainian partners and continue to provide Ukraine with weapons and equipment to defend itself," Biden said in a statement.
Biden announced the plan to give Ukraine precision HIMARS rocket systems after receiving assurances from Kyiv that it would not use them to hit targets inside Russian territory.
