Egypt is a major importer of food, and one of the biggest wheat importers globally. It also imports the majority of its vegetable oil, which mostly comes from Russia and Ukraine. The crisis in Ukraine is causing a major food security scare in Cairo. Egypt's government is speeding up the country's plans to increase its self-sustainability of staple food.
