China's college entrance examination, or gaokao, kicked off on June 7 and is underway in most parts of China. This year, a record number of nearly 12 million candidates have registered, with 300,000 examination sites nationwide. In Beijing, more than 54,000 students have registered. The government has set up special sites for examinees under quarantine or COVID-19 treatment.
