S. Korean president taps college professor Chung Jae-ho for ambassador to China

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol tapped Chung Jae-ho, a professor of Seoul National University, for the role of ambassador to China, Yonhap reported on Tuesday.

Chung is a professor of political science and international relations and director of the Program on U.S.–China Relations at Seoul National University. He taught at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology after getting his PhD degree at the University of Michigan in the U.S.

President Yoon also named Yun Duk-min, a foreign policy expert who previously headed the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, the country's ambassador to Japan and Chang Ho-jin, a former ambassador to Cambodia, as the ambassador to Russia.

Hwang Joon-kook, the former ambassador to Britain, was chosen to be South Korea's next ambassador to the United Nations, according to the presidential office.
