A family of corsac foxes, with the playful cubs watched over by their attentive mother, was recently captured on video in Hulunbuir Pasture Land in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The fox cubs were filmed darting in and out of their underground den, looking around vigilantly while their mother stood guard. Currently considered to be the smallest fox in China, the corsac is under second-class state protection. The breed lives mainly in steppe, desert and semi-desert areas and feeds on rodents. Hence it plays an important role in regulating rodent populations and controlling rodent damage to fragile pastureland.
