The number of people killed in a church attack on Sunday in southwestern Nigeria has risen to 40, the governor of Ondo State said on Wednesday.

The other 61 worshipers wounded in the attack are being treated in local hospitals, Governor Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu told the media in Owo, the town where the St. Francis Catholic Church is located.

On Monday, he declared seven days of mourning and ordered that flags be flown at half-mast on all public buildings in honor of the victims.
