Korean Peninsula missile tests: How to dial back tensions
15:22

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) launched eight short-range ballistic missiles from its east coast on Sunday. The latest missile launches by the DPRK came amid escalated tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Sunday's round of launches is the DPRK's 18th missile test this year and the third missile launch since South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol took office on May 10. It was the largest number of ballistic missiles the DPRK has tested in a single day.

In response to the missile launches made by the DPRK the previous day, South Korea and the United States fired eight ballistic missiles into eastern waters on Monday. Top nuclear envoys of the United States, South Korea and Japan held a trilateral meeting in Seoul last Friday, vowing to strengthen coordination and deterrence. China on Monday called for restraint and relevant parties to remain calm and avoid taking any action that may escalate tensions.
