Summit of the Americas raises doubts
29:51

The 9th Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles got off the wrong foot, with some Central and South American nations deciding to snub the event following U.S. President Biden's decision to exclude Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, defining them as "non-democracies."

"The Hub with Wang Guan" looks at Washington's struggle to exert influence in Latin American countries (LAC), a region increasingly politically fractured and plagued with a myriad of economic difficulties. Wang talks to Ambassador Heine Jorge, a research professor at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University and Alessandro Golombiewski Teixeira, former minister of development, industry and foreign trade of Brazil and former president of the World Association of Investment Promotions Agencies. They tell Wang that LACs are turning to China, the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global South for growth and development as Washington's clout in the region begins to wane.
