China's energy giant Sinopec on Thursday put into use the country's deepest underground natural gas salt cavern storage well, with an injection volume of 190,000 cubic meters made on the first day. The newly-opened Wangchu-6 well, part of salt cavern storage known as Jianghan, runs more than 2,000 meters deep.

With a designed capacity of holding up to 4.8 billion cubic meters of gas, Jianghan is scheduled to swing into full operation in 2026.
