Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says New Zealand has played a leading role in China's relations with developed countries. In a video call with his New Zealand counterpart Nanaia Mahuta, he said Beijing considers New Zealand a significant strategic partner. He said China hopes to continue to work with Pacific island countries as an important part of South-South cooperation. Mahuta said Chinese leadership would be critical to help achieve success for the global response to climate change and fight the COVID-19 pandemic. She reiterated New Zealand's position on the one China principle.
