ECB calls surprise meeting Wednesday as inflation soars

European Central Bank policymakers will gather for an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday as soaring inflation puts the eurozone economy under increasing pressure.
"The Governing Council will have an ad-hoc meeting on Wednesday to discuss current market conditions," a spokesperson for the ECB said.
