00:55

Spain's first major heat wave of the year continues, with temperatures expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius (109.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in some parts of the country. The Aemet weather agency said the hottest areas would be in central and southwestern Spain.

Meteorologists said the temperature in Madrid, where people were seen cooling off in water fountains, could hit 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 F), well above average for early June. The heat wave, brought by a mass of hot air from North Africa is expected to last at least until the end of the week.
