Shanxi Province in northern China has handed out digital vouchers worth 900 million yuan or $134 million to local residents to spur consumption. The vouchers can be used in nearly all retail stores, including restaurants, shopping malls, supermarkets and gas stations. Local officials say the vouchers have leveraged consumption worth $1.3 billion. Shanxi is set to issue digital vouchers worth a total of $194 million in 2022, triple the amount of last year.
