The largest railroad hub in Asia, Beijing Fengtai Railway Station, officially opened for operation on Monday after four years of reconstruction.

Located in Fengtai District of the Chinese capital, the station has a constructed area of about 400,000 square meters – 2.5 times the size of the Forbidden City – and can accommodate up to 14,000 people waiting for trains per hour.

It also makes full use of natural light. The overall energy saving rate of the station is expected to reach more than 10 percent, saving 950,000 kWh of electricity and reducing carbon emissions by more than 900 tonnes per year.
