Finland says 'difficult' to reach agreement with Turkey on NATO membership

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto on Tuesday said negotiations between Finland and Turkey regarding Helsinki's NATO membership have begun but it would be "difficult" to reach an agreement at the 2022 Madrid summit due later this month. Finland and Sweden formally applied to join NATO this May, but face objections from Turkey. For any new member to join NATO, all of its members must agree unanimously.
