Wuhan was once the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in China. The explosive spread of the novel coronavirus brought huge challenges to its public health system. Since 2020, the city has made intensive efforts in upgrading its medical and public health facilities. Wuhan ramped up investment in building and upgrading its hospitals and healthcare centers. In order to cope with any major public health emergencies, some of these new hospitals can be used to treat infectious diseases, if necessary.
