A deadly 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck near the city of Khost in eastern Afghanistan's Paktika Province shortly after 1:30 a.m. local time Wednesday, killing more than 1,000 people, injuring 1,500 more and destroying at least 500 homes. The earthquake was the country's deadliest in two decades.
