School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo was put on administrative leave Wednesday amid criticism of the police response to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 students and two teachers dead, the school system's superintendent said in a statement.

Chief Pete Arredondo was in charge of the law enforcement response in Uvalde on May 24 and will be replaced by Lieutenant Mike Hernandez, the statement said.
