European Union (EU) leaders have granted Ukraine and Moldova official candidate status. The heads of state and government of the EU member states approved the European Commission's recommendation at the start of their two-day summit in Brussels. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the decision a "historic moment", and thanked European leaders for their support.
