Afghanistan received the first batch of donated materials from a Chinese enterprise, Aynak Minerals Company, on June 26. The donated supplies worth $60,000, including rice, flour and cooking oil, will be delivered to 800 families affected by an earthquake. A total of $200,000 in material and cash assistance will be provided to quake-hit areas in the following days.
A magnitude-6.1 earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on June 23, killing more than 1,100 people. The Chinese government has decided to provide emergency humanitarian assistance worth 50 million yuan (about $7.5 million) to the country.
