Hong Kong is looking to renew its reputation as a major hub for art and cultural exchange. China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) says this is important for the country's economic and social development. Our reporter Cen Ziyuan spoke to the president of Christie's Asia-Pacific on how this can be achieved.

CEN ZIYUAN CGTN Reporter "Under China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), Hong Kong is set to become a major hub for art and cultural exchange. What role does Hong Kong play as an art exchange hub in the Asia-Pacific region? What opportunities exist in this area?"

FRANCIS BELIN President, Christie's Asia Pacific "We serve collectors across the Asia Pacific primarily out of Hong Kong, and for almost ten years now, we see China as a very important place for us to transact. We've been having this license to operate auction in Shanghai since 2013. There are so many things that you can actually do to understand what the subject is about, and this is where our digital innovations and social media initiatives are actually bringing in to collectors, so they can better understand how important, and how relevant the subjects are in the context of art history, and potentially into their collecting choices."

CEN ZIYUAN CGTN Reporter "Analysts say there are signs of 'market slowdown' globally. What challenges are we witnessing?"

FRANCIS BELIN President, Christie's Asia Pacific "We continue to see strong demands. Givenchy and achieved over 100 million euros, which it is a very strong number."

CEN ZIYUAN CGTN Reporter "How is Christie's Hong Kong saleroom linked to the global art markets?"

FRANCIS BELIN President, Christie's Asia Pacific "Christie's Hong Kong is absolutely central to Christie's globally. Asia Pacific collectors still acquiring 30 percent of the global offerings that we have, and then you see that incredible community of specialists on the different sides just working together in promoting the objects and sourcing the objects to put the sales together."
