The death toll from the massive landslide in India's northeastern state of Manipur rose to 34, officials said on Saturday, according to the state-run broadcaster All India Radio.

So far, 18 people have been rescued, while 28 people are still missing, officials said.

The landslide on Wednesday night hit Tupul yard railway construction camp in Noney district, where some Territorial Army personnel were guarding a major railway line construction site.

Rescue operations to rescue those still stuck beneath the debris are underway.
