The mayor of the eastern Ukrainian city of Sloviansk Vadym Liakh said "many" people were dead after the city was hit by powerful shelling on Sunday, Reuters reported.

The mayor said 15 fires broke out in the city after the mass shelling.

Tetiana Ihnatchenko, spokesperson for the Donetsk Oblast Administration, told Ukrainian media outlet Suspilne News on Sunday that at least six people were killed and another 15 were wounded in the Russian shelling of Sloviansk.
