Uzbek president confirms casualties from Karakalpakstan unrest

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Sunday confirmed that there were some casualties among civilians and law enforcement officers in the unrest in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, an autonomous republic in northwestern Uzbekistan, local media Gazeta.uz reported.
Mirziyoyev declared a month-long state of emergency on Saturday in Karakalpakstan.
