Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed their bilateral relationship and the situation in Karakalpakstan during a telephone call on Tuesday, the Kremlin has revealed.

In a short statement, the Kremlin said Putin expressed support for the Uzbek leadership's efforts to stabilize Karakalpakstan, an autonomous republic in northwestern Uzbekistan that has experienced unrest over proposed constitutional reforms.
