British Prime Minister Boris Johnson plans to resign as Conservative leader after growing calls for him to step down, BBC reported on Thursday.

The BBC said Johnson will continue as Prime Minister until the autumn. It said a Conservative leadership race will take place this summer and that a new prime minister will be in place in time for the Tory party conference in October.

A spokesperson for Number 10 told Sky News, "The prime minister will make a statement to the country today."
