- Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is confirmed dead on Friday after being shot by a gunman during a speech in the western city of Nara in Japan.

- Abe, former leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), was delivering a speech campaigning for an LDP candidate for Sunday's upper house election when the incident happened. 

- Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has condemned the attack as "barbaric" as global mournings pour in.

- Suspected gunman Tetsuya Yamagami, a resident of Nara in his 40s, was arrested at the scene. He has admitted to having shot Abe and police said he will be sent to prosecution on suspicion of murder on July 10.

- Yamagami said he had a grudge against a specific organization and thought Abe was connected to that organization.
