Former Mexican President Luis Echeverria Alvarez died at the age of 100 on Friday night at his residence in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexican newspaper El Universal reported on Saturday, citing a close source to the former president.

Alvarez was a Mexican lawyer and politician affiliated with the Institutional Revolutionary Party, who served as the president of Mexico from 1970 to 1976.
