Updated 12:09, 10-Jul-2022

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa agrees to resign on Wednesday, July 13. He has been shifted to Army Headquarters last night, according to NDTV.

The protest is mainly due to Sri Lanka's worsening economy – Sri Lanka's prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said late last month that the island nation's debt-laden economy had "collapsed" as it run out of money to pay for food and fuel.

Earlier on Saturday, large numbers of protesters demanding the resignation of the president and the incumbent government stormed the president's official residence and the Presidential Secretariat, as well as the prime minister's office in Colombo. At least 30 people have been injured, according to local media.
