UK's Conservative party have announced that eight candidates will vie to become the next prime minister. Five senior tory members hit the threshold of parliamentary support required to be in the running.

Former Finance chief Rishi Sunak, his successor Nadhim Zahawi, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, former defense minister Penny Mordaunt and ex-health minister Jeremy Hunt. They are joined by three outsiders in Wednesday's first round of voting, where at least one will be eliminated.

For a candidate to make it into the list, they were required to obtain a minimum of 20 nominations.

The new leader is due to be announced on September 5.
