Officials in China's Hainan Province have held a press conference on the island's development. Over the past decade, Hainan has undergone major economic and social changes, taking steps towards reform and opening up, environmental protection and enhancing people's sense of happiness, fulfilment and security. Since 2018, more than 180 free trade port policies have come into effect in Hainan. The average annual growth rate of new market entities, direct foreign investment and foreign-invested enterprises has been 40 percent, 80 percent and close to 120 percent, respectively. Hainan has also taken measures to create an independent customs operation.
