The central Malaysian city of Ipoh was once the center of the world's tin mining industry, one that was only possible thanks to the contribution of migrants from China. The Hakka people were followed by Cantonese migrants, who came to be the dominant Chinese ethnic group. Reporter Rian Maelzer checks out a new heritage trail in Ipoh, allowing visitors to explore the Cantonese history in Malaysia, stopping at important sites, and revealing practices and traditions that have since died out, and others that still live on.
