The Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps Reclamation Museum features a revolutionary history of the new China's undertakings of reclaiming land for farming and building the city of Shihezi, once a sparsely-populated desert. In the spring of 1950, the soldiers of the 22nd Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army entered the area, starting their long journey developing water conservancy, reclaiming agriculture, and expanding farming and animal husbandry corps. For more than 70 years, several generations there have made unremitting efforts to fulfill the dream of turning desert into an oasis and turning the Gobi into a new city.
