Police are on the hunt for suspects after nine people were fatally shot in separate shooting incidents in two provinces of South Africa at the weekend, police said on Sunday.

Five people were shot and two more were injured in two separate cases at the Thembelihle informal settlement in Gauteng province, the authorities said.

Police also launched an investigation into a triple murder in Khayelitsha township in the Western Cape Province, as well as an unrelated fourth murder, Colonel Andre Traut said.
